Endodontics
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry concerning dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots of a tooth . It focuses on diagnosing tooth pain and performing root canal treatment.
A single sitting rct is performed in less than an hour using advanced endodontic technology incorporating latest rotary equipment , apex locators ,digital radiography .It is possible in fractured teeth with close pulp involvement and teeth with minimal infection .In clinical conditions with extensive infections, multiple sittings are required.
Apicoectomy is the surgical resection of a tooth and its removal together with the pathological periapical tissues. It is indicated in cases of large unresolved lesions after rct ,perforations ,horizontal root fracture ,failed rct etc .It is not advised to perform apicoectomy on teeth with deep periodontal pockets ,grade 3 mobility ,grossly carious structure etc.
In microscope assisted rct , the chances of leaving behind any tissue or canal is far lesser .The chances of failure of rct is lesser. Also if an instrument breaks inside a root canal, it is easier to retrieve it when a microscopic is used.
Only tooth coloured restorations are done these days , which include glass ionomer cement restorations ,composite restorations etc.
